I thought of something today - are the bulbs dual fillament too produce the brighter brake / turn signal light? ... or is more voltage directed to them to create this?

Could it be in my case that one of the fillaments is OK and the other burnt out?

While were on this topic. If you have tilt steering, watch for a bad connection on the plug that goes to the switch. Your lights might work ok in the wheel up position, but tilt the wheel down and you get the fast blink or no signal treatment. I just replaced the multi-function switch harness in a truck that was damaged. Got the part from Ford, I think it retails for about $38. just a heads up.

Hi, I have a 97 f150 and have no headlights. Everything else works ok. Went to dealership and paid ~$100 for diagnostics to have them tell me it was headlight switch. They wanted $200 to fix. So I took it home and replaced it myself for $25.
NOT THE PROBLEM.............
After much more research (including finding wiring diagrams, etc, and the use of a multimeter) I am fairly certain my MFS is the culprit. Thanks for the step by step for replacement of MFS (AjRagno). This is exactly what I was looking for.
BTW.... if you have 12v on headlight fuse in PD box (under hood near master cylinder) but you dont have 12v to headlight fuses in cabin fuse box (near emergency brake release) (#26 & #28 ???), then MFS is most likely bad.

I have a 2003 4.6 liter f-150, my turn signals will not work, however my emergency flashers will. I tried to replace the relay( i think) in the fuse panel under the dash with no luck. Is there some thing else I need to do and what? When I move the arm on the steering column I can hear a dink under the dash as if they want to work. The relay I tried was an after market relay from a parts store. I need my turn signals Please help.

Sounds like a bad multifunction switch. Also check wiring to be pulled out of the connector, particularly if you use your tilt wheel alot. Good luck!

I recently developed the exact same issue with my '02. The thing I found with mine is, when I tilt the wheel down to 'driving' position, I get the rapid blinking and the rear signal doesn't work, but if I tilt the wheel all the way up, it goes back to normal function. Would this still be the multi-function switch?

Ahhhhh, never mind, I just didn't read far enough into the thread. Sounds like the connector is the culprit. Can the wires be re-inserted into the connector if this is the problem, or am I looking at rewiring a new connector?

I had the problem with my turn signal. AAAAAAAAAAAAANnnnnnnnnnnnnd guess what it was the wires going into the cannon plug into the mf switch. The instructions on here are perfect. Take off three pieces of plastic and the ignition cylinder(sounds bigger than it is)(actually cake to get on and off). There is the wires on top of the column. Tilt in and out and watch them pull right out of the plug. The little pieces of plastic in the plug that hold them in break. I cut the black wire tape around it off. pulled a little on them to get some slack and taped the hell out of them back in. I didn't know if glue was ok so I just used electrical tape. Works great now.

Different issue with turn signals

Hello all, I would like to first say this is a great site with LOTS of valuable information!!

I have read the entire string of MFS related items and I have a different issue.

My issue is with the passenger side turn / park lights only when the headlights are on. With the headlights off the turn signal works normally. With the parking or headlights on, the right dash indicator stays lit and the turn signal does not flash. I have checked / replaced the front and rear bulbs with no luck. I have also checked all of the fuses in the truck. The drivers side works normally under all conditions and it's got me a little confused.
I still need to pick up a shop manual..

Any troubleshooting ideas would be greatly appreciated.

97 f150 V6,AT,2WD

Thanks!!
Jerry

Very old thread. Off hand I'd say it sounds like your parking lights and turn signal are shorted together...

hey guys I have a 01 F150 XLT 209K on the Odometer. I am having turn signal problems... the fuse (#4 int he fuse box) is blown the right turnsignal works normal the left front doesn't blink the left rear does. I am confused by the "split fuse" for the turn signals but I don't see a left and right fuse for them... I replaced the fuse and the bulb and the fuse still pops. clearance lights work all the way around. the owners manual says that there is Exterior Rear View Mirror Switch, Mirror
turn Signal Relays on the number four fuse... is this the rear view mirror switch to change the outside mirrors> or something totally different? the mirror switch hasn't worked in a few years.... it is sloppy snow and cold here right now..
