You know what though.....IMHO, HP to weight ratios are key. IE, you can have a 200 HP bug running 10 seconds in the quarter. Its proven, and scary. If they are keeping the modular engines the same HP, or more trq, or slightly more in both, but dumping enough weight that the 4.2 cant produce power, thats one HEAVY truck. So the 4.6L is producing 231 HP. If the 4.2 cant move this beast with 26 less HP...what is that!? The curb weight on my truck is 5110 LBS! with 231 HP pushing that? No wonder they are rid of the 4.2 Youd have better luck towing a F350 with a rascal >:|
I don't know who said that the stangs are supposed to get a 3.5L, I considered myself pretty well informed on what's going on in the Mustang world and all I've heard is that the 05 V6 Mustangs are slated to get the 4.0 SOHC V6 with something like 220hp.
Also, I don't know why they'd be getting rid of the 4.2 in 04 since the stangs will be keeping the 3.8 (actually I heard they are gonna call it a 3.9, but it's the same CI displacement as the 3.8 ) Maybe Paul is right though, maybe it's because of the added weight
Now the sales manager of a Ford Dealership is a pretty good source of information you would think their right? Considering they are forced to keep up with all of their new products they sell, And also being that this particular Dealership is considered one of the biggest Ford Dealership in California witch could possibly be one of the biggest in the Country. Hummm I'm going to go with what the Sales Rep said, give him a call he's their now and the call if freeeeeee 1 800 247 8349 and ask for Tim McNaughton after 10 AM PST I'm sure he would get a kick out of the call.
Well that's all good news to me because that means that, well since I already beat 4.6 F150's, I'll be beating them even more since new ones are heavier with the same horse power....poor poor unsuspecting 4.6....wait, what's that??/,,,,,awe, don't cry, it's ok that my V6 is kicking your butt all over the place..

I wouldn't trust anything someone told me at a dealership. I know a couple people who work in Fords corporate offices. And they are where I got my info from.
Not to insult anyone who works for a Ford dealership. Maybe it's just the ones in the Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana area that suck. I argued with a parts guy at Ford for an hour about an aluminum driveshaft, he said they wouldn't fit a V6 with a T5 transmission. I finally gave up, got one from somewhere else and it bolted right up
Also had a sales rep try to sell me a 2001 Mustang GT with a 5.0
Those guys couldn't tell you what color socks they were wearing, let alone any reliable information about the vehicles they were selling. And Ford is the worst, regarding sales and tech people, as far as my experience goes.
Please dont get Tom started on the Auto tech subject! LoL. I agree though, with the extra 400 pounds, and no increase in HP on the 4.6, our 4.2's should smoke them! I mean, what HP they already have is null in void if you add a crapload of weight.
I just typed this long paragraph and accidently deleted it....oops
OK, again, The official story from Ford is htat with the new plant and assy lines, they were unable to mate the 4.2 into the system for release on time. Only the new 5.4 and the 4.6. Supposebly tehy will have it out in the later half of the 04 model year. Do I think they messed up on this? I think teh screwed the Pooch so to speak. The base price of a 150 went from around 15-16k to over 20k a price jusp of 25% !! 4k!! Most of the 150s I see around town are sixers, and a majority of them are base models or R/C sports. Like mine. People who need a truck for light duty but require more room or maybe slightly more power than a ranger can offer for teh same price. I must say this is one of Fords largest mistakes recently as this is their 'premier' line of vehicles F-series are their mainstay, and coupled with the recent problems with teh new 6.0L Diesel, and the Release of the Titan, I foresee problems for Ford. Becasue I feel the Titan will take out alot of the sales to the 'yuppies' People who own a truck jsut to own one, I mean a 4.6 S/C Lariat people with a 2x4 (some have the 4x4) going over to teh Nissan because it 'looks' (specs) better than the competition, whereas as far as a truck I feel it will far short in the real truck use aspects, but that is antoher rant all together.
First off - I agree with Alfred that Ford is screwing up.
Second - I live in S. Florida where it's ALL Mercedes and BMW yuppies along with rich folk that just want to own the biggest freegin truck they can buy, so you see ALOT of Hummers, or Humvee's.
Third - Alfred, if you don't switch those T and E keys on your keyboard, I'm going to break your fingers!!!!!!! peace bro
