Bendix Power Steering box
Hope you are all still living the dream!
My '86 F100 has a Bendix Power Steering box (AKA Bendix Bishop, Bishop Kirby) which is in good condition, almost no freeplay at the steering wheel, but has a leak at the Pitman Arm connecting shaft. Yes it is right hand drive, I come from the land down under!
Hoping someone out there might know if I can replace the seal on the Pitman shaft without removing the box.
Can the seal (and I assume lower bush/bearing) be replaced without dismantling the whole box?
Thanks

I would guess it is a thin bushing so what could you grab it with that would fit between the bushing and shaft?
If the box was apart you might be able to drive the bushing out but I can see that still being a job.
Did I see a post that there were 2 seals on the output shaft on our boxes?

The Blue Top / Red Head boxes they machine that area and fit a bearing not a bushing.
I love my Red Head box, no issues in the six years the truck has been on the road.

Stands to reason they would do this. They want you to buy a new truck after a few years, not keep it for over 30 years like we are.
Here is an interesting article about GM. Don't laugh, I am sure Ford is doing the same thing.
