Recent 4WD problem
Any thoughts what this might be? Revent history, I upgraded to after market rotors, and obviously had to have the autolocking hubs off. I believe I put them back together properly, it's not rocket science, but am I missing something? I also had it recently aligned if that makes a difference.
My truck was just done with rotors, pads, FL ujoint, and shocks. The mechanic removed the manual lockng hubs and put lithium grease on them. The truck is showingthe same signs as you explained and is also binding.
I posted yesterday and got an answer back from a guy who has the same problem after his mechanic messed with the rotors.
He explained that it MAY BE that when re0installing the mechanism of the hubs that the spline gear may have been reversed in either one or both of the hubs.
The spline teeth go all the way out to the edge on one side, and a rind about 1/4" deep before gettingto the teeth on the other side. His gear had the teeth to the outside, but a picture in a repair manual shows them to the inside.
Perhaps you simply put them back reversed. I'm having mine checked today and will keep you posted on the results.
Also, I've heard NOT to grease manual hubs. They should be cleaned with automotive solvent, lightly oiled, and put back together. The grease may cause something not to engage even though the hubs feel correct when locking/unlocking. Just a thought.
Good luck.
