Trying to convert my 1975 Ford F-250 2WD Supercab with a 360FE AND A C6 into a 4WD. I have a 1978 Ford F-250 4WD Supercab heading my way with no motor and no transmission and no transfercase. Wondering if I could use my automatic transmission and just buy a transfercase?
welcome to
sadly your c6 will not work,, it will need to opened the output shaft changed as they are shorter for a 4x4 then for a 2x4,
you would be better off finding a donor truck with all the needed parts,
you will need one for a 4x4, as the output shaft is shorter, the trans lacks a tail housing which allows for the adapter to mate the transfer case to the trans
you will also need the rear transmission brace and mount, along with the full front axle assembly , springs, steering parts, while it looks simple sadly it's not. it is a lot of work

A divorced transfer case is also an option. That depends on how much fabrication work you want to do underneath. It's the hard way to keep the transmission and get 4WD.
If you're thinking of overhauling the transmission anyways, maybe that's an avenue to swap the tailshaft and housing and make it into a 4WD transmission.
