are there any. i was looking into getting a performer 390 intake and on the edelbrock and summit websites they state the fitment to be 66-76 engines. will it fit my 65?
Actually they say '66-'72. I think it has to do with emission controls. Most '65 and below have the PCV hole in the back of the manifold along with the oil fill hole in the front, the '73 and up have an EGR hole in the carb. flange.
Also, '65 was the last year of the standard Low Riser intake ports, in '66 they went to Medium Riser style. I don't think this is an issue 'cause Edelbrock says it will fit both Medium and Low Riser type ports.
If it is an FE with standard(non tunnel port or high riser) heads the Performer intake will fit. My 428 has 1963 heads and 1968 block and the intake fits. It has to do with the oil fill and PCV as mentioned by BB. If you have the intake oil fill then you will need later valve covers with the oil filler in the cover, at which time you could add the PCV and get a cleaner engine too!!
