yeah i believe they will interchange, well atleast that is what i was told, i have never done it thougth, maybe someone can help you that has done it and knows for sure. good luck
The horn wire is in different location on 78/79 but can be changed to work on 77-earlier. 78/79 columns are the same 2wd and 4wd. There is a adapter bolted on the end of column for 2wd or 4wd.
Theres also a difference if you have the cruise control buttons on the wheel, makes the horn wire move around. be sure to check the wiring connections. Physically they will interchange other than the adapter on the end of the shaft for 2wd vs 4wd.
All,
There is a difference in length between a manual and power steering column. You cannot interchange the two. If you would like to go from manual to power you must get the matching column to do so.

Different length on the steering shaft? Or different length on the interior portion? I plan on converting my manual steering to power. Would I need a different column? The steering on my 74 F-250 used to be the power assist but then I changed it to manual after the power assist died. That is why eventually I plan on converting to full power.
74,
The manual steering box is shorter than the power box. The columns are two different lengths to accomodate the two different boxes.
Sorry, you'll need to get the column to match the box.
PS This is the way it is on two wheel drives. I have not done this kind of work on a 4wd.
Consider it.

If I understand it right, any 78-79 Steering column, assuming that they're both power steering will work, 2Wd or 4WD. Reason I'm asking is mine is kinda worn and I'd like to swap in a newer one.
Thanks,
Pat
