E40d issues
Hello everyone, I just picked up a 96 f250 7.3 powerstroke 2WD. It has the E40d transmission. Starts up and runs very well. However, it does not want to move. It will engage the gear I believe because the engine rpms go up and down when changing gear selector. I decided to throw more transmission fluid in it today and it moved forward. I put it in park again to go close the hood and hopefully drive it and nothing. Doesn't want to move again. Is the transmission shot? I do not hear anything out of the ordinary.

Have you checked to see if the oil level is up to the hash marks? Possibly a fallen trans filter
But checking for transmission codes will be your best bet.
FORCAN and an OBD 2 dongle is the cheapest diagnostic tool you can aquire that will resd trans codes.

Thank you! Just dropped the pan and no obvious damage at first but the transmission is definitely shot. I can hear some kind of rattle, clank or metallic sound off and on and I saw quite a bit of metal shavings in the fluid. Going to pick up an E40D from a 95 f350 tomorrow and hopefully it all works out.
