Spline count on the steering box

I got a part number off the original Pitman arm YC35-3590-AB. I tried counting splines just above the pitman arm but its hard to make out. I get some online answers of either 32 or 36. My original door sticker is faded (need to get a new one) and that told me the month and year it was MADE. I remember it was produced in 11/2001.....I am going to change out the steering box soon so I am trying to get the parts lined up...
What is another way to determine spline count on the box??
