Trailer plug question

I bought a light strip to mount on the pinch weld near the running boards.
The light strip has running (amber), turn signal (amber) and a white light when you open or unlock your door.

Before I go Freddy Krueger on the factory harness, is it possible to wire this contraption to a 4 way or 7 way trailer plug?

Except for the door opening to give you white, typically yes. Ford does try to make trailer wiring more complicated than it needs to be lately so I'd just give it a quick test with a multimeter and see if you have power at the trailer plug with the running lights on or not. Also unknown to me if the truck would "see" them as a connected trailer or not, but LEDs are high resistance/low current much like a multimeter so I'd think not.

Thanks!
i guess I would probably need to tap into the fuse that operates the door lights then.

I didn’t see anything in the manual that shows a fuse for the interior lights.
I’m not sure if it’s grouped with one of the other 200 fuses the truck has. Only thing that came close is the driver door module. Not sure exactly what it’s for, but I’ll try and get a probe on it in the next few days and see if it’s something that I can tap into

Be aware that your truck will always think there's a trailer attached.

Is that a bad thing?

I guess that'd be your personal opinion.

Every time you start a truck you'll have warnings on the dash for example.

Your miles to empty will calculate different also, Sooner or later that would even out if you continue to leave plugged in.
