There is what appears to be brake fluid leaking into the cab right at the brake master. Brake master appears to be losing fluid. I have looked at the brakes and there is no evidence that there are leaks at the lines. Leak is very slow.
01 excursion limited automatic with coil swap. 2006 f350 axles. Still factory brake master. 05 to 07 steering gear.
First, its the brake master leaking and not the hydroboost right? I have atf in the power steering right now and the leaking fluid doesnt seem like atf. Its not red.
Second, i think i want to upgrade the brake master to the 05 to 07. Havent had any issues with the stocker stopping wise, other than its leaking. Not sure that would be caused by the bigger brakes though. A new stock unit will be easier to install and i dont need to buy brake line flairing tools. I have heard that the factory master doesnt have enough capacity at the extreme end of pad life. Once again, no issues with the stocker braking wise. Stops great.
Any perfered brands? Thoughts on what to get? What would you do?
Use a white tissue or napkin to soak up a little of the fluid in the cab and then dab a little from the PS reservoir and compare. From memory I don't believe it's possible for brake fluid to reach the cab with the hydro boost unit. If you're losing brake fluid from the MC I'd look real closely at the lines and calipers. Split the MC from the hydro and look between them and see if the MC is leaking out the back.
That leak is the hydroboost. Brake fluid doesn't have a path through that into the cab. Mine was leaking and I replaced it a few mo ago. You're gonna want to replace that - not sure if there's a decent rebuild for them. Also, double check your hoses as they pass the shock tower as that's a known wear spot.
