7.3 swap...again.
7.3 swap...again.
Around 6 months ago, I began a project vehicle; a 2001 F250,7.3, 156", 4WD. My tranny was rebuilt by BTS 3-4 years ago, very low miles, and I'm in the process of rebuilding the 7.3 engine; working on cab, interior and I also have a new box to replace the rusted out rust-belt mess (Chicago then Minneapolis). I was planning to upgrade the suspension to springs upfront and longer leaves in the rear, until recently.
I recently got access to a 2012 F-350, 156", 4WD rolling chassis from a salt-free southern state; Fuel system, steering, axles, wiring, driveshafts - basically, no engine, tranny, cab or box, and I don't know if I should just move the suspension over to the 7.3 frame, or if moving the 7.3's stuff over - engine, cab (it came off when I pulled the engine/tranny) and new box over is a good idea, or even possible - I know, I know...with time and money anything is possible, but I don't have endless funds, however, I DO have time, welding, mechanical and patience skills.
I'm thinking since I have everything disassembled already, dropping all the 7.3 stuff over to the 2012 frame should be fairly straight forward - change the motor mounts, hoses, running the 7.3 harness on the new(ish) frame, etc.
Should I pull the trigger and buy the 2012 rolling frame, or am I being stupid?
