Question Timing mark jump

Ongoing issues still not resolved (87 Ranger 2.3 FI/Auto)
As previously stated all new parts.
Replaced TPS (throttle position sensor) yesterday, no change.

So I got to thinking.
Put a timing light on, removed spout connector while running, it's at factory specs (10 degrees BTDC), and when replaced, moves to a different reading, as specified.

BUT, while viewing the mark while running, I see that it jumps for a split second, then back to where it belongs, all at idle of course.

The jumping is continous.

I truly think this may be the issue with my ongoing problems, and would like to know if anyone has seen this, what might be the contributing factor, and how to go about solving it so it remains steady.

BTW, new timing belt, new ignition parts, new TFI Module (4th one, this one was replaced about a year ago).

Suggestions?

Well, just maybe

I bought a $29 timing light from Kragen today (inductive pickup) and I think 'MAYBE' it's an el-cheapo problem. I played with the connector that clips onto the sparkplug wire, and it 'seemed' to be more readable, but I'm going to have someone with a 'real' timing light check. Weird.

I've fallen into that cheap tool trap a few times too Bob.
