76 f100

Truck is burning oil and trans is slipping. Thinking about putting a used motor/ trans into my 76 f100. Because it is 4wd is there a specific transmission i need to be compatible? Truck currently has a 360 id be willing to go smaller like 302. Thanks

You need a 4x4 transmission and your trans also has to bolt to the 302 if you change it up, or the 360. Ford uses different bell patterns for almost every engine series.

Thanks for the reply. If I buy a motor with a transmission attached and it's out of a 4wd it should work? Or is there variations there too?
