Trying everything before I resign to taking the truck to the dealer.
2017 F250 Lariat 6.7
A while back my AC stopped blowing thru the face vents, it defaults to defrost even though during it’s initial sweep it will blow thru the face while moving to defrost. At the time I lived in the northeast so I could just roll my windows down and it wouldn’t bother me much. Now I’m back in Texas and need it fixed.
I’ve researched for a while and tried a bunch of things.
- Changed actuator on drivers side. No change
- Changed blend door actuator on passenger side. No change
- Checked batteries. Both at 12.6V with one disconnected. Batteries were replaced ~4 years ago with superstart AGM when it was making different chime noises.
- Disconnected BCM and reconnected. This usually works when the truck loses my gauge settings.
- Traced wires to headlights and tail lights. All connections I could access were opened, cleaned, and reconnected.
Every now and then I throw a code for emissions and sometimes there’s a code for headlight low circuit.
Is there anything I’m missing or need to dig further into? Seems like the BCM just doesn’t know where to stop for face since it will change from defrost to floor when selected. I don’t hear any weird clicking.
BCM has nothing to do with the HVAC controls, that’s all controlled by the FCIM (Front Control Interface Module), you need to see what code it is throwing for the MODE door actuator.
There is a motor up on top that controls the vent door positions. The ones you changed are the blend doors that control temperature. I have the same issue with my Flex except it skips past the floor position so I have either defrost or vent which if OK in the summer, but in winter the floor stays COLD. I replaced the motor, twice, it won't properly calibrate which leads me to think there is something that fell down there and jammed the door or what, but it won't calibrate. Yours may just need to be recalibrated. There is a fuse for it somewhere that can be removed and a cycle performed to recalibrate, I just don't know what it is on the trucks.
There are 4 of these motors, not all the same either, that control HVAC, the two blend door motors, the position motor and the recirculation motor. That last one I heard is a royal PITA to replace, the door one is also a Royal PITA but doesn't require as much to be removed to reach. On the Flex the door motor is behind the instrument cluster, it may be similar on the Superduty.
Ok, I figured it out. I had changed the mode door actuator when this issue first presented itself. It’s in such a tough location I didn’t see any clocking elements there. After y’all’s comments I decided to look at it again. Welp, I had it clocked wrong. Spin the gears to get it lined up and popped it back in. Everything works now. Thanks folks, now maybe I can survive this Texas heat again.
Speaking of the heat. My P203B code is popping up more often, seems like it does it during especially hot days. Time to research another issue.
