i have a 97 f-150 4.2 v6 with 170,000 miles on it. Ive been using Pennzoil 10-30 for the life of the truck. Ive had little problems with the truck . Ive been seeing on this forum about Chevron and Mobile being recommended for these pickups. Should i change oils?.........what should I use?...................What do i need to look for as far as performance? by the way I live in West Texas 90+degrees avg. summer 30-40 degrees avg. winter.
Sounds like the Pennzoil is doing a good job in your truck. Unless you have a compelling reason to switch brands or are just tired of the yellow can, I would stick with the Pennzoil. Pennzoil is a group II made from hydrotreated base stock. Their trade name for it is PureBase.
Stick with the Pennzoil. (I thought I'd never be saying that...) If it's worked for you that far, obviously your motor likes it, so stick with it. I'd be surprised if it doesn't go another 170,000 miles. Now when they go to GF-4 and cut the ZDDP in half, then you may want to look into a dual rated 10w30 diesel oil with the CH-4, CI-4, SL ratings, like Delo, Mystik JT-8 or Rotella T.
