I replaced the tail shaft seal and bushing on my C6 (1978 F100), but a leak has returned. I'm thinking the yoke has been worn down slightly over time - although I'm open to other ideas.
I see 31-spline replacement yokes ranging from $60 to $200. Any recommendations? The overall length matters too, huh? I'll have to pull the yoke again and measure. Do I measure just the length of the smooth shaft?
Beyond that - I'll need a new U-joint. So I'll measure that too. The new bushing only has about 30 miles on it - so I plan to reuse that and hope for the best.
Just a SWAG, it might be time for a Spedi-Sleeve on the yoke??
I'll check those out. At first glance, they look pretty stubby. Maybe they don't need to extend all the way into the shaft - just where the seal touches. Thanks!

But that area "where the seal touches" changes with each and every bump in the road, every dip, every load change, every take off from a stop, every hard braking ... as the slip yoke moves in and out. If the sleeve is narrower than the length of the yoke's travel area, it's lip might itself be a seal killer itself as it passes that seal lip.
