So my ‘04 Lariat 4x4 Crew Cab needs either the top end and timing redone or a full motor swap, so it’s time to let her go. The problem is that I don’t know how much to ask for it. I can price out trucks that are allegedly running correctly, but not one that effectively needs a motor. So, I’m looking for some guidance on how to price it. Some of the details: About 190k in the odometer. The truck is Torreador Red, black leather interior with a bench seat and column shifter. No sunroof but does have the power sliding rear glass. It comes with two sets of factory 18” wheels (one with snow tires), an AFE cold air intake and stainless cat back exhaust. I also have a Bluetooth unit attached to the factory 6-disc CD receiver. Known issues include a cracked windshield, a sometimes leaky rear window, and a non-op passenger front seat.
It might be better to replace the motor and keep driving it than taking a bigger loss selling it not running. If you go that route don't forget a new transmission seal.
Say 4000 for a rebuild engine and a few thousand for someone to install it.
Check around for pricing on a rebuilt motor and install then go from there.
Or pick a price and if it doesn't sell in a certain time drop it a couple thousand at a time and see what happens.

To be honest I was planning on selling it before the engine started having serious issues. I really don’t have a need for a full size pick up truck anymore. I have long since gotten rid of my travel trailer, and that was really the biggest thing I used it for. It’s really too big and thirsty to use as a daily driver, which I have been doing since I sold my car. I do need a four-wheel-drive truck because of where I live, but downsizing to something like a Tacoma, an older Ranger or even a Maverick seems like a better option for me. With a Tacoma or Ranger I might even find one with a manual which I prefer.
If it still runs down the road you can always trade it in. They will give you a low price, but you will be done with it. Or check around at a junkyard they may pay more because they can part it out ? I do like the Maverick.
