I'm interesting in replacing the rust prone cheap hard lines the run down the frame rail on my 2004 6.0L PSD Excursion with stainless pre-bent lines. Dorman makes a kit, but it is only for the gassers. Does anybody offer a kit for the 6.0L diesels (Truck or Excursion) or will I just need to use the Copper/Nickel bulk line and bend my own?
All I need to source is the longer lines. Stainless kits are available for the hoses and for the axle hard lines since they are common to either gas or diesel.
Thanks for the link. I'm going to call them tomorrow and verify fitment. From what I understand, the location of the ABS module is different between the gassers and the diesels, making the diesel frame line shorter. I'd even be okay kluging something together by shortening the line myself or making a hybrid with Ni/Cu...though I've never bent or flared a stainless line and don't have the special tools required for that material.
I remember the layout being different between the early and later years, with ABS on the front rail for the early trucks and by the master for the later trucks. You might be right about a gas/diesel change.
If you make your own stainless lines, you need to buy annealed tube, and yes, you need very good tools and skill. I've got Eastwood's turret kit and can do it, but even with it, flaring stainless is tough.
Not sure there should be a difference between gas and diesel ...
Their 4 miles from me and can custom make any line out there , made me a ABS line for a 98 Tahoe while I waited.
They say most line kits out there come from them.
I wasn't real happy with inline tube. The line to the front right was too long and required a LOT of massaging. I asked them to send another with a certain amount removed from one of the sections (3" iirc), and they asked me to ship the stock line and they would replicate it. So $60 in shipping and they sent a line that I couldn't use because they added the flex sections with stupid big compression fittings where the line was supposed to fit into the frame clips. Then they sent another without the flex sections but it was still too long in the same place, AND I never got my original line back!
I originally ordered the front end kit for F250/Excursion with "B" label on the ABS control unit. It came with the front section of the rear line and it was nothing like mine. I had been thinking it was for a gasser, because it doesn't have to clear the HFCM, but the local Ford dealer said the only criteria that determines the rear line configuration is ABS or not, and wheel base.
I ordered the entire rear line from sstubes.com. Still haven't opened the box. Not looking forward to pulling everything required to replace that mother. Might wait until I'm ready to do the fuel tank sump since I'll have to drop the tank.
Wow....just wow. I called sstubes and got the same person in sales I talked to before ordering, and like the first time, was cocky and arrogant. Completely incapable of understanding the problem; couldn't get past the fact that I haven't straightened out the rear section and connected the tubes. Even after I offered to send a picture she kept saying "Well you haven't connected them yet so how do you know they're no right?" They must be having financial difficulties or she hasn't had her meds. I asked for tech support but got a voicemail. We'll see if I get a call back and if he is more mentally stable.
