I’m servicing the C6 on my 1978 F100. The replacement filter looks a little different. Same footprint and hole layout - but the screen area is different. And what is the black rubber grommet for? Seems like it would just be hanging in the pan.
Should I pull the rubber grommet? Clean and reuse the old filter?
After some searching - I think the new filter is for a 4wd with a deep pan, and the grommet works with an extension/drop tube. My truck is 2wd…so I ran to Advance and got one that matches the old one.
For future reference - could I have just pulled the grommet and used the filter?
