Hi, folks. Some crackhead broke into my truck, last night. While the stereo is easily replaced, they also stole the ignition system - distributor & coil. This makes me think it was someone who knew what they were looking for, and not just random property crime, which pisses me off even more.
Anyway, bitching aside, anyone know a good place to get a reconditioned Duraspark system, online? It's a 1980 F250 w/ 351w, so I'm assuming it was a Duraspark II system. I haven't had any luck at local junk yards, and I'd rather not spend my money at a dealership, if I don't have to.
Also get yourself some hood latches that lock from the inside useing an ACE type key.....no more missing engine parts. Any Auto Alarm or JC Whitney would have those. It consists of an inside Armored cable with a key latch that retracts the hood so that when you release it, from either outside or inside the Auto/Truck....it unlocks/releases the Hood...you also might invest in a sensor alarm to protect your valuables on the inside.
Thanks, yeah, I'll be looking for some hood locks, now. It's such a common engine that it never even occured to me that anyone would steal engine parts.
You must have changed the engine sometime? That engine wasn't offered in 1980. Only 351m. If you go to the parts store, you may have to tell them to look up an 83 or 84 truck with 351w.
I believe that your info is incorrect. It's my understanding that 1979 was the last production year for the 351M, and Ford returned to the 351W, for their light-duty trucks, in 1980. They did continue to use the 351M in some 250/350's, until 1982, but I believe that was only in the HD models.
The emissions sticker on my truck also indicates a 351w, which would support this info.
that sucks never had engin parts turn up missing but i have had sugar in both tanks and my truck spray painted by the nighborhood kids about 2000 worth of damage oh i forgot they broke my back window and they used my truck as there trash can
huh? i have never seen a 351w in an 80 truck. the only motor offered was the m motor. the listing for the 80 was the 300 i6 the 302w the 351m and the 400m. the 460 was only designated with the e350 cab and chasis(aka delivery van). my 80 has the 351m. glad it does cause the 460 is coming soon. Kurt
Only the 80-82 F-250s got 351Ms. I am not sure about 351Ws.. If it has 9 bolts holding on the valve cover, its a modified/cleveland. If its 5 (I believe) its a windsor block.
351m, 400 have 8 bolts holding the valve cover on.
302, 351w have 6 bolts holding the valve cover on.
I don't know how to prove it, but I have run into the engine thing time and again after I put a 351w into my 1980 f150. The first time I ran into this was when I went to get the rear sump oil pan for the engine. They only listed 351m for 1980. I have run into this at the car parts stores too. You have a very rare truck if it came stock with a 351w, and it's all 1980. Do you know the history of the truck? Maybe two trucks where put together after an accident or something.
the ford repair manual, and labor guide show no 351w made in 1980 for import or export use. chances are someone replaced the 302 with a 351 at one time or another. we did this with my brother in laws 81 truck. since the 5.8 was cheaper than the 5.0. go figure?
the engine codes offered in the 1980 ford f series md trucks are as follows, e 300-1v, f 302-2v, g 351m-2v, z 400m-2v. they did offer the 351w in the e series vans under the engine code of w, but only as a cab and chasis hd model (e37, e38 cutaway, cargo van, or unfinished, ambulance, etc). this letter code can be found on both the door as well as on the vin plate by the forth number designation... kurt
