Working on the seat for the 55. A few months ago I had purchased a 2" piece of memory foam for the seat bottom. In recent readings I'm seeing many other advise against 2" saying that is too thick. Question would a piece of 1 1/2 be better for the bottom and 1" for the back? Note I'm a pretty big guy at 6'3" 212# so it was tight enough as it was originally. Pics for fun!
Is your truck a Custom Cab or a Standard Cab? Standard Cabs had no foam at all. Just burlap and cotton batting.
Memory Foam might be different but 2" might make you sit too high. So 1½" would be better .
Are your zig zag springs all good?
Yes, this is a standard cab and true it was all burlap and cotton originally. I was actually surprised to see it only had one zig zag spring that was broken and it was an easy fix!

I thought it was a Standard Cab because of the original seat upholstery. The Custom Cabs had a vinyl bolster at the top and was color coordinated to the body color. So the second picture has the new foam sitting on the seat?
No that's not foam. That was the original stuffing once the cover was removed. Not sure what that to later might be called but it was really soft. It appears to be three layers that made up the cushion. With burlap underneath
Memory foam compresses to form around you. When you first sit on it and when cold it will be higher, but your body weight and heat will allow it to compress. I say use the 2". If you don’t like it you can change it later. That is the best part of doing the work yourself.
On my 48, I used 2 inch (luxe-hq) foam. For the seat bottom it's fine. It's a little too much for the seat back. If I were to do it again, I'd go thinner for the seat back, but still 2 inch on the bottom.
