Truck Specs

I have a 1985 Ford F-150 5.0 L 2 wheel drive that I just bought. It has a 4 speed (including overdrive) manual transmission. My door sticker has been painted over so I don't know my exact specs of the truck. I mostly want to know what rear end and tranny I have. When driving down the road at 60 miles an hour I am doing approx. 1700 RPM. Also, when my truck was on the hoist the other day I was spinning the back tires and they were both spinning the same way. And I got my friend to hold one tire while I spun the other and it didn't move. The truck was in neutral. Does this mean I have limited slip? If I have limited slip what do I put the differential? Just straight gear oil or do I need to put a special additive in as well? Thanks for your help.

by what you described yes you have a ford trac-lok. you want to use standard hypoid gear oil in your diff, perf. 80/90. you also need to use a limited slip additive. the trick is to put about 2 oz in and drive it. if it clicks and shuters on pavement, add another 2oz. it really shouldn't take more than 6 oz. my 14 bolt took only 3. if you add to much you break awyay point will be decressed, too little and you risk major problems in the carrier unit(limited slip unit). if you read the tag on the axle it should read like 3l70 or 3l50. it states " i have a locked up set of 3.50 gears inside". if the tag is missing give the spec on the 3rd gear rpms, and i can tell you. but by what you are saying it sound like 3.50..
