I got my Cabela's F150 $50 test drive coupon in the mail last week. I went to one of the many dealers here in town. Looked over a XLT F150 Supercrew. Not too bad. The "cloth" seats are bad. Ford calls that cloth??? Gimmie the velour style anyday. Anyways, talking to the salesman I told him that wouldn't be interested in the F150 but rather another Superduty. He said well, would you rather drive one of them instead? Didn't matter to him what I drove. Sooo.. he picks out a F350, XLT Crew 4x2 with the new 6.0 PSD/Tq Shift. It sure was noisey. Even with the windows up an a/c on clatter.. clatter... clatter... It got up and went pretty good. I wouldn's say any better than my ole V10. Put about 10 miles on it and that was enough. I have no idea how anyone could listen to that all the time. Sounded like a bucket of bolts. I guess they aren't for everyone.
Strange..
Both of my buddies 6.0 are worlds quieter than 7.3's. Maybe you rode in one that had the "splitshot" injection "flashed" out of it. (if thats the correct term). I understand that it made the diesel noisy again.
I was impressed at the quiteness of the 6.0. If they weren't so undependable, I would probably get one...maybe in 2005.
Maybe I should roll down my windows and listen for the noise your talking about. I just turned 800 miles on my 6.0. Last weekend I took it on a 500 mile round trip and at interstate speed (and at city speed) I could not be happier with the ability to listen to conversation and music at the same time. The only drawback so far is I don't have a trip planned until Feb. to welcome my son home from Bagdad.
nope they are not for everyone, just those who regularly tow heavy loads up long grades and like to be able to stay at the freeway speed limit and those who like being able to go 500-600+ miles between fillups

He he he... And those with an extra $5,000 laying around.
Well, I have to say the 6.0 is loads quieter than the older diesels. I dont hear the nosie you mention at all, once it gets to highway speed you would never know it was a diesel. (Other than the power) Maybe take a different truck for a drive, something was wrong with that one.

I like a loud diesel, hear the power, especially a Stroker: Don't even have to mash the pedal to peel out, but when you do, that turbo sure will whine.
Thats funny V10man drops his stinkbomb and runs behind the tree to watch everybody react and never comes back to reply
V10man hummmm does that name suggest a preference and/or bias to any of you?
And would you think he would have anything nice to say about a 6.0
no big news here
The 6.0 is extremely quiet compared to the 7.3. You are used to driving the v-10 so of courswe it will seem loud....any deisel will sound louder than a gasser.
NOISE??? Now thats music! Don't know what the problem is. I don't even hear the sweet sound when I'm talking, listening to a cd, etc. But not having a diesel, I can see where someone would notice "a different sound." Oh well, nuff said.
What you don't understand is I want a diesel but can't afford the extra $$. I was just saying that that particular truck was loud. Even my Ford blue daughter hated it. There's no way in heck I could get that noise past the wife....
