I am getting to have the gears changed on my 04 4wd f250 6.0 diesel.
It has an 8 in lift with 38x15.50 PJ tires.
Any thing I should know before I start to look for someone to do it?
There's not a whole lot you need to know other than what ratio you want to go to. From what I've seen, most guys do a 4.56 ratio for 8 inch lifts and tires around 37"-39". It's somewhat expensive. Usually around 1000-1300 depending on where you go. I'm planning on doing this in the next few months. I'm going with either Sterling or Precision Gear, but I'm not sure which yet. Some of the other guys with lifts will come along and probably be able to add more.
It also depends a lot on if you tow or not I found.
I have 35s with 4.30 Precisions and love the gas mileage. If I towed any more often I would have gone 4.56, though. Keep that in mind with bigger tires than mine. Make sure you heed your gear guy's break in instructions on new gears.
