You need to get the proper type of distributor that has the magnetic pickup and works with something similar to Ford's TFI ICM. Most of them will have the TFI mounted to the base.
I cannibalized a TFI just to get the electrical connection from the distributor; the module plugs into the bottom of the distributor to get the connection to the magnetic pickup. I ran the wiring to the functional TFI module that I moved to the inner fender, out of the stream of the hot air blown in by the fan.
