Fuel trouble
i replaced various parts in it and its almost ready to be road ready but it wont start it is turning over and all that good stuff but fuel isnt getting to my carburetor, i have a dual tank system and it was at one point bypassed but i recently set it back to normal and i found out that fuel isnt through my switch meaning its not getting to my fuel pump itself and i cant get it starting. i replaced the old fuel lines and also took an air compressor and blew air through the lines yet fuel only gets to the swtich and wont go through to my pump. im gonna replace the switch but i need some help identifying and solving this problem. attached is a picture of my switch
Is there 3 ports on that valve and just looks like 2 ports of how the picture was taken?
Then both new hoses go thru the floor? so I dont see how that valve has 2 tanks in and 1 out?
So to the valve did you check the fuses as you should have one a fuse for AXU FUEL at least my 81 dose.
The valve should default to 1 tank. For the early 80's they say it was the front tank but my late 80, 81 model year, it was the rear tank.
So you should have power with the dash switch in only 1 position and not the other. Use a test light and see if you have power on the wire. Valve body grounds the valve.
With the key on motor off, depending where the valve is mounted, looks to be under the cab area, you can hear it click when it switches tanks, they are known to go bad as mine was bad.
You can find new valves on Ebay FV-1 https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw...980.m570.l1313
Note they are a little different and is the wire hook up but it works the same. Mine looked like this but mounted and wire was different.
The new valve should be marked M=main, A=AUX, out IIRC just make sure you have the right port to the right tank for the switch or you may be pulling fuel from a tank not reading by the gauge and will run out of gas.
I would also say start off using the tank that is not the default this way if the valve fails or the fuse blows you will still have fuel to get somewhere to fix it.
I had the fuse blow and did not see the level go down and when I switched to the default tank found the level dropped. That is when I started looking at why and found the blown fuse.
If you do find the valve will not let fuel thru have a bolt handy to fit the hose and maybe a short tube so you can bypass the valve.
Run the hose with fuel in it to the line heading to the motor / pump and plug the other tank hose with the bolt till you get a new valve.
