Long time reader first time poster (and member)
02 f250 7.3 153k miles 4x4 automatic 4 door shortbed.
bought the truck rigged to work, not exaggerating when I say I pulled a 5 gallon buckets worth of added on aux wires that powered LED lights and various other add-ons.
I began the process of reverting back to stock and after some progress and diagnosis recently got my circuit board rebuilt by circuit board medics (10/10 recommend) so this has been the first time I've had a healthy cluster in.
First test drive after a load of work and seemed OK till I parked for 30 with truck off then it was dead. Accesory delay relay was still functioning but Fuse #42 had blown but what's weird is windows and courtesy lights still work, only things that dont are locks. (I dont currently have a stereo so assuming that also won't work)
I've removed every door panel and plug so as to inspect and test wiring, and I've also removed a number of panels such as kick board and the dash cover. I haven't been able to produce results only repeat symptoms with fuse #42 instantly blowing. I believe I've narrowed it down to a solid pink wire that runs from driver to passenger door, and also appears to run under seats. Does anyone happen to have any input here? Id hate to chase the wrong rabbit down the wrong hole.
:TLDR fuse #42 keeps blowing, not the obvious culprit of chaffed wires withing doors or obvious ground faults.

I'm not super well versed, but wonder if that fuse is tied into the GEM. Gem problems can show up many times as odd accessory related things. windows, locks ect. Intermittent even. Usually gets corroded internally by a windshield leak.
Someone will probably be along that's smarter than me.
Fuse 42 feeds the radio through a pink wire. It also feeds rear seat entertainment system.
great info! Glad you mentioned the rear entertainment system. My truck doesnt have one however its possible it was either removed, or substituted previously as the interior is not stock (king ranch seat swap) it would also explain why the solid pink wire disappears under the drivers seat and does not reappear under passenger. Think i'll remove center console and see if anything funny is below.
The stereo was Def rigged previously, one of the funkiest wire ordeals of the lot. That being said after reverting back to stock and making the repairs i dont have a solid pink wire going to stereo harness, I also only have 1 harness & plug. Does that sound correct for the year?
Also thanks to the other 2 guys who commented! Im forum illiterate (idk how to tag in this response) from my understanding my GEM module is built into the cluster based on other forum research and the absence of the module itself from its usual hiding spot behind the glove box
I spent a minute double checking and tracing wires behind stereo and though ive seen no pink wire to stereo, I did possibly find one going to an electrical plug box behind stereo and under automatic light sensor. Will include pictures.
Hard to say for certain without pulling the dash weather this pink wire aligns with the one in question, infact ive no idea what this box even does. 2 plugs 1 gray 1 green. Any ideas?
There are two plugs for the stereo/radio. C290a and C290b shown in the diagram. It's hard to tell but the radio plug you show may not be the one with the pink power wire. C290a will have pink, red/blk, lt green/ violet wires and other power wires. C290b looks like mostly speaker wires.

That's the VSM. Earlier trucks had a GEM but 2002 got a VSM which does some of the same functions.
This thread has some good wiring PDFs. I guess just confirming the wiring you have is correct is a start.
