I have a '99 Ford Ranger XLT with a 3.0 and auto. trans. It seems when its damp and cold and you first crank it up it will sputter and then die, or not run at all. I have to hold the accelerator pedal all the way down and then crank it. After that it will crank and run fine. What'd ya think? Thanks for any info

Does your truck have alot of miles on it?(time for new plugs) Or possibly it's getting too much fuel rammed into it on initial start-up?
Try having the codes pulled to see if there are any present.
If the throttle body is dirty, that would also cause hard starting first time 'round. Does it start perfectly when warm or does it turn over a couple of extra times before it catches? Just thinking that it does need a cleaning and is only a minor problem at this point.
Hi Dealford, thanks for responding. The truck has 57k on it. It fires right up after it warms up. I didn't have this problem last winter. I will try cleaning the throttle body and I'll pull a plug to see what it looks like. I'll let you know how that goes.
