I’ve got a 92 f150 300 2wd
when I first bought the truck I replaced the radiator because it was cracked
I had troubles with overheating when idling
so I replaced my fan still had troubles so then replaced water pump, thermostat and hoses.
I have now been through 4 water pumps in 2 year all have started leaking out the weep hole. And now it has just started again.
is it just faulty pumps or do I have something wrong.
my temp gauge stays on cold after I replace my thermostat, before it was reading normal (half way). Could it be a faulty thermostat or something plugged?
I’m thinking the pump is bad. The local shop replaced the rack and pinion in the Outback three times with a reman from Napa. They finally gave up and used a new rack. It has been fine since then. Did you buy a good name brand pump or the store brand from the local parts store with the lifetime warranty that you spend a lifetime replacing?
If you used a “fail-safe” thermostat I can almost guarantee that it has already failed. I tried one of those several years ago. It worked for two weeks.
Yes I used 2 oreily pumps (Murray) and 2 Napa name brand pumps. My thermostat is a oreily brand, but my temperature gauge has always read cold since replacing it.
