catalytic converters

I have 2 questions regarding cats.First,What is the air inlet tube for? Second,what does the length matter?

the air tube is for the air pump off your motor to pum air into the system to help the cat to breathe more efficently. as for the length, i think that just depends which brand you get.

The air tube pumps fresh air into youre catalytic convertor to help "burn off" more of those bad emissions. Check out http://auto.howstuffworks.com/catalytic-converter.htm . The length of the cat will determine how much cfm its rated for, and in turn, what size motor it will accommodate.
