Unable to read codes

Hey everybody, I have a 97 FSuperduty with the 7.3 power stroke.

I have FORScan and a Bluetooth dongle that works well for monitoring live data, but it will not retrieve codes for some reason.

I have a check engine light on, and when I go to the errors tab in FORScan and search for codes it comes back with:

“Successful DTC reading, no error codes found”

anybody have any idea why I’m able to read live data, but not pull trouble codes?

thanks in advance.

koy,

I have a 96 F-250 powerstroke that I used with Forscan the other day. Granted, I had the wired OBDLinkEX so that might be a difference.
Here's what I did:
1. Plug in USB from OBDLinxEX to computer (having already downloaded Forscan on your computer/phone)
2. Make sure the light is Yellow
3. Turn on engine (not just to ON position)
4. Plug in OBD2 plug from OBDLinxEX to OBD2 port on truck
5. When I was in the Forscan app there was about 4 options of vehicles to select and I selected the one that best fit mine
6. Please note that Internet does matter, if you have an old computer or poor WiFi connection, this step to read codes will take a while. The newer the computer, the faster it goes.

Hope something here helps you out!
