I had to take the shifter out to put install the floor mat today.
Before I took it out I could move the shifter through all the gears. When I put it back in I could run through 1-4 with the clutch pedal depressed, 2-4 with the clutch pedal up and I could not get into reverse in any situation. I am guessing because 1st and Reverse are non synchro gears the teeth are not lined up and when it rolls or I get it running that will resolve itself?
I just want to be sure I don't have a clutch issue. It seems odd things changed after I took the shifter out and put it back in.
I also have about 1.75" free travel in the pedal which feels like a lot at least compared to my Camaro.
It's funny this popped up today. I drove my Camaro about 1 mile with no glass bumpers hood etc before it went into the body shop for paint. I haven't driven it for 7 years as it was stuck in a different body shop since 2019.
Any way I have a 5 speed Hurst TKO transmission and when I sat down I couldn't figure out what was wrong. The truck shifter lever moves about a foot left to right in neutral and about 10 inches between gears. My 5 speed transmission moves less than 2 inches back and forth in neutral and less between gears.
I couldn't figure out whether I was in neutral or what gear I was in!
It takes 2 seconds to get between gears on the truck before you even think about how fast you are going. So 43 seconds is about right!
