2023 7.3 Rear Diff Question

My rear axle has 11.6 sticker on it so I assume that’s pretty cut and dry, I’ve got the 11.6.

the manual that I downloaded from Ford says 3.8 qts max in the manual but I’m seeing people talk about an updated QTY of 4.3 or something?

a lot of the threads I read get flooded with people with other axles and it gets confusing. Also, if anyone has the torque specs I’d appreciate that as well.

I would like to know as my pinion bearing and axle bearings are currently being replaced by the dealer and I want to be prepared to eventually pull the cover and swap the fluid.

Can't help with actual quantity
but full floaters have to have sufficient fill to allow the lubricant to reach the bearings at end of axle tube's. Not fill the tube's
but sufficient quantity to cool and lubricate
Thats the only quantity that matters

I full every axle to til it dribbles out the fill hole. The M300 was over 1/4" below the fill hole when I did my change and I know they had overheating issues on earlier model years. Just fill it.

I get that but from what I’ve been reading, some of the WSM’s state to fill it using the ELD plug up top, dues to the fill hole being too low.

so if I know 100% what the proper amount is, I can make sure that i get that in there at a min

That issue is corrected, fill to top of hole, check once driven if you want to be extra cautious

What milage, what ratio?.

Curious, what ratio and how many miles before failure?

My vehicle:
2024 F350 7.3 / 4.30:1 Sterling 11.6 elevtroic locking rear axle.

At 975 miles and 2 months old dealership rebuilt in entirety. Ford Corporate would not approve a complete axle/ housing assembly. Ford Corporate told dealer to rebuild it.

At 6800 miles the axle was so loud you could hear me coming for couple hundred feet. Didn't know if we were going to make it the last 500 miles home with an 8000 lb trailer in tow..
Ford replaced the entire assembly after all! Should have done it initially.

There is apparently a problem with the 4.30 Sterling 11.6. I know of two others in the last 8 months.

Also my dealer has had 1 other 11.6 . That's 2 in 6 months for that dealer alone and he's not a huge multi store dealer.
You shouldn't see failure in under 100k with normal use and maintenance.
Is this just the tip of the iceberg?
I also wonder if it is only with the 4.30 gear?
My F350 is quiet now as it should have been from the beginning.

BTW my F350 was manufactured June 2024.

no idea. Bought it used, gold certified with 28k miles. A week after I got it, noticed the noise. Dealer still has it, said they are basically replacing everything. They also said the fluid level was fine.

3.73 and 28k miles.

i just bought it used, gold certified. I honestly can’t say if it was bad when I bought it, really have to pay attention to hear it.

dealer initially said pinion bearing. When they went to change it, they called and said they were replacing a lot of other stuff due to how it looked. They still have it so I don’t have a full list yet.

there does seem to be a unusual amount of bad rear ends on these newer fords. some guys on the tremor site lost rear ends also.

That often happens with the first drive off of a dealer's lot...
