I recently purchased a 2002 Explorer XLT 4X4 with approx. 70,000 miles on it. When I attempt to put it in 4WD (auto, high or low) nothing happens, no lights & no action. I see the 4X4 Low light flash on as I start the truck, so I know it isn't burned out. Where should I start in attempting to locate the problem? Any help would be appreciated.
Yeah I read the owners manual and tried that. Not the problem.
You see, I am the type person that never gets that lucky--it's never something simple, such as me just not putting the vehicle in neutral and thus it won't go into 4x4 Low.
With my luck the whole damn transmission and 4x4 crap is probably gone.
I swear I will never buy another POS Ford as long as I live.
Took my explorer (or exploder, expoorer, as some of you say) to the dealer today to get the 4x4 thing checked out--it wouldn't do anything when you pressed the 4x4 high or low button...no lights came on or anything, and front wheels wouldn't pull.
They replaced some module and it works. No cost to me, still under warranty...weeeeee!
