Hi ya'll,
I have a 1979 f250.. having to plug and unplug the instrument panel the glue on a couple of connectors has came loose..
I'm afraid to not glue them back before I try again..
it dont have to do anything but hold them down.. At least two of these coper things were bent out the last time i unpluged
If you plug it in gently and squarely, the connector should hold them down. I have had several that were separating like that. If you're concerned about them moving, a small dab of superglue on the backside, should be more than sufficient.
I've glued a few of those. A tiny drop of superglue or contact cement works well.
While you have the cluster out, clean all the contact areas for the light bulbs on the PC, the contacts on the bulb holders inside & out, & on the light bulbs. Then test everything before you put the bulbs & holders back in the cluster.
I use fine steel wool or a drop of Deoxit to clean the PC, fine sandpaper on the bulb holder contacts.
Absolutely.. cleaned all contact points as well as I could 0000 steel wool, n electronic cleaner.. dielectric grease on contact points.. don't know how to test the gas or temp guages.. thanks for your input..

Gauges are easy to test. You'll need two 1.5v batteries, like AA cells, & two wires with alligator clips on the end.
Clip wires onto the studs on the back of the gauge. Other ends onto one battery. One battery will give you about 1/4 to 1/3 scale if the gauge is good. 2 batteries, 3v will give you about 3/4 scale on the gauge. A drop of light oil on the shaft where the speedo cable hooks up is a good idea too.
