I'm trying to find out if anyone has had any problems with NAPA water pumps(NEW). I have replaced two of them since OCT. 10 on my 1985 F-250 and they only last a couple of hundred miles before leaking out the weep-hole on the bottom of the pump. The antifreeze is new as is the heater core and hoses. NAPA keeps replacing the pumps on warranty but I am getting tired of changing them. Any suggestions would be appreciated!!
After the second time....I would just get a refund, and go get one from autozone, at least they work. NAPA gets the best return on cheap rebuilds they can get, I know, I used to work for them.....I was a manager and would never work for them again, anyway...get one from a better supplier, and you'll be ok.
Don't use the rebuilt pumps, why use someone elses problem. Have the Napa order you a DPW pump it will probably be a few dollars more but I know you won't have a problem. LocknKey should have known that if he was a manager. The DPW pump is a GNB pump, you will be happy
The pump I received from NAPA is a new pump(part # 55-1114) and it is a NWP pump not a DPW. Is there anything that you can think of that would cause the seal to continually go bad in such a short time? The counterperson at NAPA mentioned possible pulley misalignment on my truck. I think this is a far shot if possible at all. What are your feelings on this. I think there is some sort of problem with the pumps therselves.
Well there is only a few things that I could think of. One is putting the belt to tight would cause there to be extra strain on the bearing. Also have you checked your fan clutch? If it is going bad it will cause that pump to go out really quickly. If I were you I would get the DPW pump. The NWP is made by airtex and the DPW is made by GNB. I think that you will have better luck with that pump. If you want you can turn that those pumps in for labor claims and have them pay for your time doing it. Let me know if you need any more help.
Thanks for all the info. If this latest pump starts leaking I will see about getting the DPW pump. Also, how does one go about turning in labor claims? I did not realize that this could be done.
For you to get a labor claim just have both copies of the reciepts from you buying them and the part that went bad. It is probably too late now since the napa store probably already sent your old pump back in for them to get credit but you can have them send it back to the manufacturer and ask them to pay you for the labor that you had to do. For most manufacturers they will pay labor for the first year and then must parts credit after that. Most auto parts stores only offer that to the shops but you can submit it and see what happens. Let me know what you do.
