CEL P1272/requesting steps to properly replace a single Heui
Good evening to you all, I have a question about a P1272, diagnostic testing of an HEUI for the 7.3 beyond the buzz test and replacing a single injector on a 01 7.3. I have been getting a P1272 off and on to where the truck will start, idle and run with a slight miss and seems to randomly run great when the CEL is not illuminated. I performed the pin test of ohms and my wires are within the spec. I performed the buzz test and cylinder 2 sounds just as good as the other cylinders. I have already replaced the valve cover harness and gasket with Motorcraft parts. I reached out to my local dealer and ordered a replacement injector. I was wondering if someone would knows if I replace 1 single injector, would I have to remove all the glow plugs to evacuate the cylinders or just remove that one glow plug and turn the engine over? I would appreciate any advice thank.
Only one glowplug needs to be removed for the injector that plan to change. If you run the engine with the valve cover off, the injector that is not exhausting oil should be your culprit. Or, you can do a cutout test by removing each injector plug one at a time but you do run the risk of being jolted by some pretty serious voltage if you're not careful. The method preferred involves access to what's called a break out box that goes between the main engine wiring harness on top of the driver valve cover. Not unobtainable but pretty scarce.
