hey, anybody removed a dash on one of these vans? i've got a '97 e150 & i noticed that a bulb is out behind the gas & temp gauges. if it's a big deal i guess i can live with it, but if it's not too difficult & time consuming i might give it a shot. almost ran out of gas last nite cuz i didn't notice how low it was.
Removal of those dashes are pretty simple take the screws out of the black instrument cluster trim panel, slide it out to access the cluster remove the cluster panel slowly and watch for the indicator cable for your gear shift because it will break as you pull out the cluster if you dont watch it. Just reach back there twist the bulb out.
there are 2 screws at the top of the black trim panel. if i understand you correctly, when i remove those i can just pull off the trim panel? sounds too easy.
also, i know there's trick to removing the headlight switch (something like pull it out & turn it, but it always sounded to me like all that would do is turn on your lights & dim/bright your dash lights).
to get the **** off of the headlight switch you pull it out and turn it until you see a notch that has been cut in it, then take a pocket screwdriver, awl, or other similar object and press the release tab, then the **** will pull off and you can push the rod back into the switch to kill the lights. You will also find screws unde a few trim pieces where the bezel meets the lower part of the dash, they may be under some trim that is snapped on they are in my 92.
Thanks! Looks like I'll have to tackle it, since last nite, another light burned on in the corner of the speedo. Won't be able to tell when I'm driving over 100mph!
I have an '86 e-150 that had sat for a few months. mice built nest behind stereo. I have removed stereo and the screws on the bottom of the radio/heater/ac control dash panel. but it won't "pop" out as I've been told it should. is there any screws or bolts holding the dash in from the inside? i'd rather not break it up to get it out only to find theres a screw somewhere that I missed. please help, I need to open this up and murder some damned mice. and then rewire the stereo and instrument lights and whatever else the damn things chewed up!
