Electrical - Fan Control
I have a 99 S.D. for 20 years now and I have had a problem with the resistor pack on the heater control burning out now for the past few years. I have replaced it 4 times in the last three years and the blower motor is also new but the resistor pak keeps burning out and I only have high speed on my blower. Question is there anything anyone can advise me on what may also need to be replaced that can be causing the resistor to burn out?? Any help on this issue would be appreciated. Thanks
Are you using OEM resistor packs? Auto parts store and Amazon units may be the problem. Otherwise, make sure there is not a restriction in the plenum where the resistor pack is mounted (It would have to be something weird..maybe mouse nest material etc.). I would hot-wire the blower without the resistor pack installed to verify the air flow.
A fan motor that is drawing too much current can damage the resistor pack. But a new blower should eliminate this possibility. Also, check the terminals and connections in the plug. They can overheat and cause problems.
