I didn't realize that ford started offering a 10.5 ring gear for the econoline club wagons in 2005. Is this true and has it got the bigger bearings of the F350 sterling or is it the older Dana 70HD revisited that used the dana 60 bearings with 10.5 ring gear? any help would be appreciated. Also where to buy a good used one complete rear axle with housing, or who is a reputable rebuilder? Appreciate any input! I am in Louisiana.
I see the newer 10.5 AAM axle having bearing trouble at low miles
I think the bearings are possibly made of Chinesium
What's wrong with what is in the van now?
Just about any shop can overhaul a rear end
I see them blown up on a regular basis
Friend called me and said it looks like someone shot a bullet through the coverplate from the inside
Cost him about 1800 for a new carrier and gearset, bearings and setup
Course that was the extra special buddy pay plan
I'd buy parts online to fix your existing rear end (Dana or Spicer parts only) I'd maybe get a cheaper gearset like Yukon if they want 800 for a factory set
Worst case scenario, you need a new case (carrier) and a gearset
Then a bearing and shim kit and take it to the dealer for the labor
8 hours, is 8 hours labor time (roughly)
The Ford boys will have all the special tools to properly set one up and maybe they'll even do it right the first time
I've got all the special; tools and charge about 800 bucks plus parts
Moab and rock climbing is too close, I work on Jeeps constantly
