I bought my 99 F150 supercab Lariat just about 2 months ago with 138900 miles on it. Don't worry, it runs like a top, however it was particularly cold this morning (24 F) and I went to scrape the ice off of it and figured I would start it and let it warm up while I was scraping. I have NEVER had to push the gas to get this truck to start until this morning. I would turn the key, it would crank (I thought it cranked a little slower than normal---battery??) and fire so I would let off the key and as soon as it stopped cranking it would die. I did this 4 times before I stepped into the truck and hit the gas. I jumped to life to the tune of 2000rpm then immeadiatly did its normal start up thing and ran great. My question is what caused it to not keep running, is my battery dead? or dying? underpowered? I bought this truck from TX and I live in MO, it has never seen below freezing or snow for that matter. Any help would be great, thanks!
yeah, so I went out and bought an IAC, neet looking part by the way. And everyone on these forums says it is the easiest thing to do (to change one)....I disagree. I have the 5.4 Triton, and if it is anything VERY difficult to get at, either I need really small hands or really small tools. Is there anywhere on the forums where someone tells how to get that darn thing outta there? Or do I need to clear an afternoon and buy beer? Thanks.
Well....finally got a hold of small tools and smaller hands (bicycle tools, and my dad) having left a souveneer in the engine under than "groove" on the block directly below the IAC, we have successfully changed the IAC, and it performed as you said it would, I got a boost in city milage, and it starts right up in the cold and snow, thank you guys!
