The heat in my recently purchased '97 Explorer just broke. i took it to a dealer and after a $90 diagnositc fee i was told i would have to pay over $1,000 to get it fixed. After reseaching the problem i have found that it seems that it's a common problem with explorers - that the actuator and heater box all need to be replaced.
I contacted Ford to see if there was a recall and the rep i spoke to said that if there are enough complaints that go to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Ford would have to do a recall. I'm sure how many complaints are needed but since this seems like a relatively common problem, if we all send our thoughts they might just do the recall. Send your complaints and maybe we can finally get a recall on this horrible issue that should be taken care of by Ford.
I needed heat on my 97 and I cut oprn the box and moved the door. That was 2 years ago and haven't wanted to do any more since. Let me know if they ever pay for it. And leave the porch light on for Jimmy Hoffa.
