upper ball joint removal, please help
If anyone has gone the removal process of changing out the driver side upper ball joint assembly on their explorer, I could sure a tip or two. I'm snagged at getting the pivot bolts out due to interference of the shock tower and fuel/brake lines. I have not yet removed the ball joint from the steering knuckle, in fear that once I've committed that far, if I cannot get these bolts out, I won't be able to reassemble with any level of safety. However after contemplating the situation, I'm now wondering if I do knock out the ball joint and give myself enough play, I might be able to angle the upper A-arm in their oblong bolt holes to get the clearance I need. Can anyone further comment on this speculation. Is this really simpler than it appears?
