Intake Manifold Ports

Finally getting around to button up my engine. When I bought, the front engine port in the picture below was plugged and the rear was either disconnected or I didn’t get a good picture before pulling (I bet on that one).

Anyone know what these would go to?

The port on the rear, large port, I would use for power brake booster. The smaller port would route to charcoal canister if you still have it.

The port on the intake runner up front might have been for factory air cleaner assembly for the heat riser bypass. It is a smaller tube and could be used for vacuum advance, but that is usually connected to ported vacuum on the carb.

Both just supply vacuum. Intake is "dry", no coolant runs anywhere in it.

The rear one was likely plugged to the brake booster, the little bib likely to a tree to offer vacuum for like AC, etc. AC uses vacuum to open / shut doors, etc. Might be a cruise control too.

What / how was the front one plugged? For years I used it for PCV valve, but lately moved that to the rear of the carburetor through a bib in a inch thick spacer.

Distributor vacuum advance off ported vacuum on carburetor.

Thanks tbear. The front just had the rubber hose pictured sticking straight up with a old metal braided cable plugging the hose

Rear makes sense. I had a picture that sort of looked like it was running to the brake booster but really couldn’t tell with the air cleaner on so wanted to make sure.

Awesome, makes sense. Yeah, that one up front is smaller. Sounds like you nailed it.

I don’t remember pulling a canister off, might be laying in some box somewhere. I’ll have to look around. That’s what I get for trying to put something together I tore apart 4 years ago haha
