Hi fellow members,
i had my alternator rebuilt lately and the wiring has been moved around...now its not charging. I've also switched over a distributor with integrated electronic ignition. Seems like i'm missing a few wires connecting to the regulator and probably connecting my alternator wrong.
There are four letters on the voltage regulator: I, A,F,S
I,ve read the online diagrams, but its not very clear.
I'd appreciate some pointers and a picture of your setup instead of a diagram.
Thanks need help with regulator wiring alternator with wires distributor with integrated electronic ignition
Yes, Ford wired their regulators two different ways over the years.
If you had an ammeter in the dash display, you got the three wires well for if you include the second yellow spliced into the first yellow. If you had a battery indicator lamp, you had four wires.
When you’re describing your distributor to people, your style is known specifically as “HEI” because it’s based on the old GM HEI distributors.
In lieu of that, you did the next best thing by adding a picture!
Oh, and it looks like you’ve got the upgraded alternator as well. The large case 1G version.
Did you install that one, or is that original to the truck? I had heard that the 70 to 100 amp alternators were an option back then, but I have never seen one that was installed from the factory. At least come on younot the later 351M/400 engines. Maybe on a camper special with a 460. Don’t remember for sure though.
I put a 70 amp version in my bronco and 100 amp version in my pick up. They both worked great for years.
Hi 1TonBasecamp, i bought my truck with this 100 amp alternator, but don't think its original. Also, according to serial number this truck had a 302, now a 350 windsor. Alternator working great now! thanks
