My 1990 E350 Ford Econoline Club Wagon with 460 CU runs great. But after driving on highway for an hour, if I pull over to get gas or get stuck in traffic, the engine stops. It will usually start right up, after a few minutes of cooling down. It acts like vapor lock, though its fuel injected. Do you have any suggestions? It clearly is heat related as it only happens on hot summer days. The engine itself is running cool 200-210 degrees max.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Thanks, I had replaced that last year, but it really still did the same thing. Though I wonder if I need to get a better pump. I'll check into the more expensive ones to see if it helps. I have read about putting a heat shield around the pump, have you heard of that?
I'd check the fuel pressure
Drive it around with a fuel pressure gauge taped to the windshield
Heat shield? for the pump?
The pump(s) are in the tank(s)
They get cooled by gasoline
On the older ones with 3 pumps, you could insulate the frame pump from heat,
But
With the correct fuel pressure, heat is not a factor, will not cause a vapor lock
Thanks! I was thinking of the frame pump, mine is a 1990 with 2 tanks, are you saying that each tank has an internal pump as well as the frame pump? I never realized. I will try set up to check the pressure while running. Good idea!
No frame pulp
1990 was the year they changed
Yours will just have 2 high pressure in tank pumps, no frame pump
You won't have an actual crossover valve like the older ones either
Your system is better / less problematic IMO
Still, get a pressure gauge and some extra hose, you can take the schrader valve out and use a hose clamp and 1/4 high pressure fuel injection hose
You want to be able to see the pressure gauge as you drive
My older 90 dollar (now about 200) Snap-On gauge has a 6 foot hose
You can just modify a cheap Harbor Freight gauge with more hose
Thanks for all the help and advice folks! I was able to replace the pump and it drives much better now! It has not been hot around here until recently so I wanted to test it out more before providing this update! Much appreciated!
