I swapped my front axle out. The newer one came out of what i was told a 99 f250 superduty. Which is what I have. Everything on the newer axle is just a little bigger. Lugs ball joints steering components. It came with a leveling set of springs I'm guessing. I had just 2 leafs and the newer one has a total of 5. 3 or 4 very short ones. Which I wanted because the over loads on the rear have it sitting way higher back there. Was told I needed drop pitman arm and drop track bar bracket. I seen i could get an adjustable sway arm. So I went that route. The end that mounts to the axle is ok. The big bolt fits it perfect. But the bolt in the bracket is smaller. I'm thinking that will allow it to move to much. What are my options?? And why the size difference in all the components ??
Early 99 trucks/axles had some different suspension/brake components. Track bar was one of them. They use smaller mounting bolts the the l99+ axles/suspension. You can drill holes out to the bigger if needed.
yep, sounds like you have an early 99 and the axle you got is for a 99.5+. I'm not sure but I imagine the track bar should be the only issue for getting it bolted up. I wonder if the "new" axle has an aftermarket kit, sounds like. My buddy has factory springs with more leafs but i'm pretty sure it's built with full length leafs.
You won't need a drop pitman arm..or you shouldn't unless they are like a 4" lift spring. I would see how it goes first, unless you are already running into issues
There shouldn't be a size difference in any of those things you mentioned. The track bar is different, the hub assembly is different and the brake rotor is different. The lug studs didn't change until 00 or 01 and they only changed the thread pitch not stud size. Everything will still interchange though. You can run e99 on late axle or vice versa, as long as the hubs match the rotors they work. If the parts on the donor axle are physically larger then I don't know what it would be. Even the the 450's had the same Dana front end.
