Exclamation Radiator support

Just wondering how many of you guys and gals out there have cracked radiator supports on your diesel trucks. If you do not, [and own a 87 up for sure] you better check since
a Ford engineer really failed on the calculation of a heavy radiator and some flimsy stamped steel.

Outcome is crazy- it all just splits and cracks at every seam and bolt hole. I think there was a recall on this? Just wondering how many others have cracks, what year the truck is, and if it is 4x4 or not. Maybe more bouncing off road makes the problem worse

I had cracks in an 87 250 gasser, but nothing like this, and always see angle iron laced to the radiator supports on every diesel of our vintage....

Hi,

I have changed my radiator support in August 2002 in case of an accident. The old one has no cracks. The used sandblasted new one comes out of an old ´85 F-250 and still don't have any cracks.

It seems to be proud if you own a later model (1985)

MRZ,

Mine's not cracked, just completely rusted out on the Driver's side. Thanks for bringing it back into my attention as something I've got to get done. I've looked at it before and wasn't able to come up with a solution to resolve it. I've thought of either replacing the entire front supporting underbody which would require a cutting torch and welding, or beefing up the lower support bracket (yep, crappy stamped steel) with some thick iron, angle or otherwise, which would also require, at least, welding.

Mine was cracked on the top on both sides, untill I hit a Elk and bent it beyond belief, then I got another one out of the junkyard that was badly cracked on both sides, but cheap and usable, then I hit a deer and cracked it in 6 different places, anyone know a good source for a aftermarket one for a 1990 7.3L with Air conditioning
