My neighbor helped me get the engine out but he was a bit overzealous and unbolted every last thing possible including the motor mounts.
If memory serves me correctly. The last time I installed this was in 2004. I can install the 351m with the motor mounts already bolted on the engine and it should drop in past the the standard exhaust manifolds that are still in the truck. Essentially the exhaust manifolds won't be in the way right?
Correct, install the motor mounts on the engine and lower it down
The post studs will go right through the holes in the frame
The exhaust manifolds will not be in the way
The Y pipe will be
Might have to move the exhaust pipes around a bit or better yet rearward a bit
Ok cool. Thanks for the response. Will an oil filter make it past the exhaust manifolds too? I had wanted to prime the engine and test the rear camshaft core seal make sure it doesn't weep.
I was not able to get the engine in without taking the motor mounts off the engine. I put the mounts on the truck frame. Tightened them at the highest point while holding up the exhaust manifolds. I then lined up the transmission and engine by myself got the torque converter bolts lined up. Got the dowels on the engine lined up. Started two bell housing bolts by hand wiggled the engine around until everything was touching. Checked the torque converter bolt make sure they were centered. Tightened the bell housing bolts up. Then loosened the motor mounts from the frame tightened the bottom ones to the engine. Lowered the hoist. Attached the exhaust manifolds then got the top mount bolts tightened.
